Hi there Rick

I have been searching for an explanation re the Setting of Pistons

The Piston Matrix is understandable re the PC +0 column

My EL-7 organ produces at least 36 possible actions with Program Change status

I have set most of the Solo Pistons but run into trouble with the output from the Basic Registration Piston # 1 . This produces Hex 70 (112 Dec)

It looks like some interaction is taking place as it does not operate

Looking into the Matrix I see 112 in the PC+ 4 I think

Changing this number to an arbitary figure allows the Piston on Miditzer to operate correctly.

My question is :- Seeing as the Matrix is nearly Full of Decimal numbers , there are not enough SPARES to go around as I have several other Possible Interactions as I work through

Can you tell me please the Implications of the Matrix Data and if I can get around Changing it or do I have to lose some operations somewhere??

Many Regards Cliff

Hello Cliff

I am not sure what you mean about not enough spare numbers.

In the PC 0 column you need to list the Decimal numbers your buttons send - beside the piston you want them to activate.

On the 216 There are 23 pistons and 9 special functions (of which I believe only about 3 are useful on a console).

Simply put the number that was where you have now put the 112, into the spot in PC+4 that by default was showing the 112. Do this for any numbers you use in your PC 0 column.

I don't recommend activating any functions in the PC+X columns.
I don't think it matters if you have duplications of numbers in the PC+X section as long as they are not being used. But you won't have duplications if you use the numbers you are swapping out.

Any number you are using in your PC 0 column must not be duplicated anywhere in the chart.

Thanx Rick

I Just couldnt collate the extra PC+ ?? Data

Do you Know to what it refers??

I will just dump it otherwise

Basically you agree that there cannot be any Doubling up anywhere and the Pistons need Unique Address

Thank you once again

Hi again Cliff

The PC+1, PC+2 etc. give you access to pistons in the next memory level up. They were created to allow people with more than 23 piston buttons to make use of them.

If you set up any pistons using the PC+1 column, you will effectively loose (or duplicate) those pistons from the next memory level up, so halving the number of memory levels you can use. It might be ok if you had about 50 physical pistons, but you would loose more than you gain if you only have about 30 physical pistons.

Please note that TRM (Trem Cancel), MEM (Memory level trigger) and RES (Resume screen clicked registration) are all very useful extra console buttons over and above the 23 Combination Pistons.

Hi there Rick

if you look at the post by Ian (Compton) compton » Tue Aug 21, 2012 12:08 pm under my post re adding Pad to Miditzer he has attached a photo of the EL-7 Keyboard (LHS only)

The two rows of Registrations (10 in all in Two groups of five) Registration Memory 1 -5
and Basic Registration 1 - 5

These account for the possible Immediate usage Pistons I was thinking maybe LHS group for ACC Manual and the RHS Group for Solo Manual

The other 13 Pistons can be derived from the group on top of Keyboards

The Unswitched group would be for normal access.

this leaves me with 13 spare from the switched bank Obviously lower priority needing two operations to invoke them but nonetheless spare.

Do you think I should map them only being 13 in number or leave them ?

http://www.imoose.nl/electone/ this site has lots of data on electone organs and the EL-7 can be found approx 1991 vintage

Cheers Cliff
